Local vintage shop in Islington Facing Recession

Blue 17, a vintage and consignment shop on Holloway Road, is one of the many independent businesses facing the hardships of the economic recession.

A worker said: “They (customers) have been coming less. There’s been cuts.”

They went on to add that the building itself isn’t well insulated.

Blue 17 has been around since the mid 1990s, owned by a family that values good quality vintage clothing.

“They try to keep prices fair; they really love what they do.” Said the worker of the owners.

“I hope we stay in business until next year.” The worker added.

A group of students near London Met said while they’re more likely to shop at thrift shops, they’re not able to go Christmas shopping this year.

While students are constantly bargain hunting, prices are rising too much this year.

TESCO announced earlier this year that their classic £3 meal deal would rise to £3.50, a move that was met with disapproval.

“We as students depend on cheap things like that”, said one of the students.

It was announced recently that the UK recession could last more than a year.
